INFLAMMATION

DSPW Skin types are prone to inflammation. Inflammation has been associated with many barriers to skin health, uneven skin tone and may hasten skin aging in DSNT Baumann Skin Types®.

What is “Inflammation”?

Skin inflammation is caused when inflammatory factors in the body stimulate the blood vessels to dilate. This leads to redness and flushing. To help explain inflammation, we use the example of INFLA-MAN.

INFLA-MAN™ turns on many pathways that lead to:
  • Dilation of blood vessels which causes redness

  • Leakiness of blood vessels which causes swelling

  • Release of compounds which causes itching

Inflammation hastens aging and increases the likelihood of developing various diseases such as heart disease and dementia. Inflammation is the underlying cause of sensitive skin.

DSNT Skin Types May Develop One or More of the Following Types of Sensitive Skin:

  • Acne – Acne is characterized by papules, pustules and comedones

  • Rosacea – Characterized by facial redness, flushing, broken blood vessels and a feeling of facial warmth that comes and goes.

  • Burning and stinging (neurosensory) – Stinging, itching, burning and related skin discomfort occur as a result of triggers affecting sensitive nerve endings.

  • Contact dermatitis (allergies and irritants) occurs when an irritate or an allergen causes a rash on the skin.
